Heather I. Eilers

Heather is a 2008 – 2012 Self Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in civil, environmental and architectural engineering.  She received a B.S. (2001) in construction engineering from Iowa State University and an M.S. (2007) in architectural engineering from the University of Kansas. At Iowa State Heather received awards and scholarships including the Mary Elizabeth Morrow Memorial Scholarship, the Iowa State Academic Scholarship, and the Associated General Contractors of Iowa Scholarship.  She has worked as an intern for the Illinois Department of Transportation, the City of Ames Engineering Department, and the Dallas-based The Beck Group.  Since 2001 Heather has worked for J. E. Dunn Construction in Kansas City, MO.  She became a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professional in 2003.  This led to her role at J. E. Dunn as a lead project manager on Staley High School in North Kansas City.  The project is on track to be a LEED silver certified project. Heather also obtained her Professional Engineer’s License in 2007.  Her long-term goals include establishing her own construction company as well as mentoring and teaching those in the construction industry.
