Biography

Alaura Custard is a 2023-2024 Self Memorial Scholar, pursuing a Master's degree in Geology at the University of Kansas. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics, both from the University of Kansas. In her undergraduate career, she served as a research assistant for the KU Crustal Deformation group led by Dr. Noel Jackson, studying slow slip events in Northern Cascadia. Additionally, Alaura worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant in the Physics department and is a member of the Physics Honors Society (Sigma Pi Sigma). In her graduate career, she will continue to focus on crustal deformation and subduction zone mechanics. She hopes to earn her Ph.D. at the University of Kansas following her Master's, with the intention of pursuing a career in geophysics research.
