Biography

Cherin Russell is a 2024-2025 Self Memorial Scholar, pursuing a Master's degree in English (Rhetoric & Composition) at the University of Kansas. She received her associate degree at Johnson County Community College, and received her Bachelor's in English, as well as a minor in Environmental studies in May 2024. In her undergraduate career, Cherin worked as a student advocate as well as a senior mentor and tutor on campus. Additionally, she completed research as a McNair scholar and was a part of KU TRiO SES & Stem program. In 2024, she was selected as an Outstanding senior in English, received the Rusty Leffel Concerned Student University Award, and won a mini-grant to provide accessibility supplies for the Wingspan Center. In her graduate pursuits, she plans to focus on environmental rhetoric and disability advocacy, with an emphasis on approachable communication.
