Biography

Claire Cox is a 2023-2024 Self Memorial Scholar pursuing an M.A. in History at the University of Kansas. She currently holds a B.A. in History with a minor in Global and International Studies. In her undergraduate career, she worked at the Wakarusa River Valley Heritage Museum as well as the Kenneth Spencer Research Library. Under the mentorship of Dr. Kent Blansett, she earned an Undergraduate Research Award for her work entitled "Decolonizing the Wakarusa Museum: The Role of Public Education and Forced Displacement Within the Settler Colonial Structure." In her graduate career, Cox will enter the field of environmental history to explore themes of settler colonialism in regard to flood control and recreational tourism throughout the Great Plains region of the United States during the twentieth century.
