Biography

Daisy Torres is a 2025–2026 Self Memorial Scholar. Daisy earned her Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Language-Hearing with a minor in Education from the University of Kansas, along with a Certificate in Service Learning through her dedicated volunteer work in the Kansas City and Lawrence communities. During her undergraduate studies, Daisy served as a peer mentor for two years in KU’s National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, later advancing to the role of Peer Mentor Chair in her senior year. She also held multiple leadership positions on the executive board of Rieger Scholarship Hall and actively participated in campus organizations such as Her Campus and Best Buddies. During her final undergraduate semester at the University of Kansas, Daisy completed a practicum experience providing speech and language services in both school and clinical settings. She worked with preschool-aged children at a local elementary school and with an adult client at the university’s Schiefelbusch Clinic. Across both placements, Daisy gained experience implementing intervention strategies for speech and language (including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices). Daisy is passionate about serving youth in Kansas City, with a strong commitment to providing the best services to children in underserved communities.
