Biography

Emily Daniel is a 2023-2027 Self Graduate Fellow from Lee’s Summit, Missouri. After six years as a research assistant in a polycystic kidney disease research lab, she is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She studies an important cellular organelle-like structure called the proteasome, which keeps our cells healthy by maintaining the right amounts of thousands of proteins. In particular, she studies how yeast cells regulate the activity of proteasomes and their organization into biomolecular condensates when the cells are stressed. Outside the lab, Emily tries to promote a scientific world where scientific research is valued, ethically performed, and used to enact a just society.
