Biography

Emily Winnicki is a 2025-2029 Self Graduate Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in Anthropology with a focus on genetics at the University of Kansas. Originally from Medina, Ohio, she received her B.A. in Anthropology and Biology with a minor in History from the College of Wooster in 2025. She also received pathway certificates in Public Health, and Museum and Archival Studies. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a diverse skill set, working as a student intern in the College of Wooster’s Special Collections department, a research and education intern at the Oberlin Heritage Center, and a summer fellow studying Sickle Cell Anemia at the Jackson Laboratory. She also completed a Bioarchaeology field school through the University of Pisa. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Jonas O. Notestein Prize, an award that recognizes one student who has achieved the highest scholarship throughout their college career. Her graduate research will explore how a range of factors—including genetics, environmental conditions, access to food, education, and healthcare—shape human health.
