Biography

Hope Hanlen is a 2023-2024 Self Memorial Scholar pursuing an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Kansas, having earned a B.A. in Speech-Language-Hearing with a minor in Applied Behavioral Sciences from the same institution. Throughout her undergraduate years, she participated in the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program, honing her leadership skills. With a passion for speech-language pathology, Hope is now a Graduate Researcher in the KU CALL Lab, whose mission is to improve educational and occupational outcomes for individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly autism, by identifying profiles, skills, and effective interventions for spoken and written language comprehension. Driven by her dedication to empowering individuals with communication challenges, Hope possesses an interest in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices. She firmly believes that everyone deserves the ability to communicate and express themselves effectively.
