Biography

Mackenzie Bravence is a 2023-2024 Self Memorial Scholar pursuing an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology. She holds a B.A. in Speech-Language-Hearing with a minor in Applied Behavioral Sciences and a certificate in Learning and Communication in Children with Autism from the University of Kansas. In her undergraduate career, Mackenzie represented Kansas Athletics as a member of the swim and dive team and president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In addition to her role of being a student-athlete, she served as an undergraduate research assistant for the Child Language Intervention, Measurement, and Best Practices Lab under Dr. Jena McDaniel, studying ways to progress the vocal development of children with autism who are not yet talking. In the future, Mackenzie hopes to work as a pediatric SLP in a medical setting. She intends to pursue a career focused on innovative research and evidence-based practices in speech-language pathology.
