Maia Flynn

Maia Flynn is a 2026-2027 Self Memorial Scholar pursuing an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Kansas. She holds a B.A. in Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences, and graduated with university honors and departmental honors. During her undergraduate studies, Maia was involved with the Student Ambassadors, where she gave tours to prospective students and their families. As an upperclassman, Maia held a leadership role as a Student Ambassadors Coordinator, working on a team of 8 students supported by admissions staff to oversee the program. She also completed an undergraduate research experience under the direction of Dr. Michael Vitevitch, Ph.D., where they analyzed lip-reading errors. She presented her research at the Red-Hot Undergraduate Research Event, and received an Undergraduate Research Award. Additionally, she participated in undergraduate practicum at the Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. In this experience, she gained skills and knowledge relevant to her future career by providing speech and language services to toddlers and their families. She also worked as a swim instructor for children with autism spectrum disorders in the Sensory Enhanced Aquatics program through the University of Kansas Medical Center. In the future, Maia hopes to work in a medical rehabilitation setting serving adults with acquired disorders.
