Maria Luisa Segares

Maria Segares is a 2025–2026 Self Memorial Scholar pursuing a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Kansas. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from KU in May 2025, graduating with distinction and as a member of the University Honors Program. During her undergraduate career, Maria served as a Resident Assistant of the Engineering Living/Learning Community in Self Hall, where she supported a wing of 40 first-year students each year. In this role, she mentored residents through academic and personal challenges, helping them transition into college life while fostering a safe and inclusive housing environment. Maria also served as Chapter Secretary for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) at KU since Fall 2022. Through this position, she collaborated with fellow chapter leaders to organize events centered on member engagement, professional development, and community outreach. During her graduate studies, Maria will be conducting research in radio frequency (RF) technologies, aiming to deepen her understanding of RF systems and explore their potential for innovation in modern technologies.
