Biography

Mikayla Smith-Craven is a 2021-2025 Self Graduate Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Kansas. She earned a B.S. (2020) in Pharmaceutical Studies and a M.S. (2022) in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Kansas. Her current research focuses on modulating the dissolution of drugs whose physical characteristics limit their dosage form and administration and the impact of excipient selection and potential excipient interactions on drug release. Her goal is to increase patient accessibility and patient outcomes by improving the development of oral formulations through spray-drying techniques. Mikayla is also dedicated to promoting science policy and in summer 2024 founded the Jayhawks for Science Policy organization at KU to provide opportunities for like-minded graduate and undergraduate students to be explore the world of science policy and advocate for change using their scientific background and research.
