Biography —
Saoirse Boyd is a 2024-2025 Self Memorial Scholar pursuing a M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology. She earned a B.A. in Speech-Language-Hearing at the University of Kansas. During her undergraduate career at KU, Saoirse completed the Certificate in Service Learning by serving with several organizations in the Lawrence community, including Good Shepherd Hospice, the Lawrence Public Library, and the Lawrence Humane Society. She was involved in KU's National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and served as the Connections Chair during her last year of undergrad. Additionally, she participated in KU's undergraduate practicum experience for speech-language pathology, working with several adult clients with speech and language disorders. She also completed a summer internship alongside an SLP working in a day center for children with autism, most of whom used augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices. In the future, Saoirse hopes to work in a medical setting, both inpatient and outpatient, with individuals recovering from strokes or traumatic brain injuries and individuals with acquired disorders.
