Biography

Sheena Zeng is a 2024-2028 Self Graduate Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Kansas. She grew up in Hays, Kansas, and graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2023 with a B.S. in mathematics. Her current research focuses on developing algorithms to solve parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs), which are used to represent time-dependent phenomena and have many real-world applications. Specifically, she is interested in improving the efficiency of various parallel-in-time methods by implementing preconditioners in the algorithms. After earning her Ph.D., she plans to continue doing research as a math professor. Outside of academia, Sheena is a US National Master in chess.

Mentor: Xuemin Tu, Mathematics Professor.
