Biography

Vivian Orta is a 2023-2024 Self Memorial Scholar pursuing a M.S.E. in Higher Education Administration. She holds a B.G.S. in Psychology, Human Sexuality, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies with undergraduate certificates in Leadership Engagement and Service Learning from the University of Kansas. In her undergraduate career, Vivian served as an ambassador for KU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and worked as a student assistant for KU’s Centers for Orientation and Academic Advising Programs. She also completed her capstone, “Erasure before Existence: Language in the Intersex Community to Fight Against the Gender Binary," which explores themes of how to advocate and teach students about the intersex community. Ultimately, these experiences solidified Vivian’s passion for working with students and within the higher education field. She currently is working at Jayhawk Academic Advising for her graduate assistantship, and in her career, Vivian hopes to assist marginalized students navigate college by creating inclusive practices and advocating for her students’ academic needs.
